TWO Hollywood actors are set to film their latest blockbuster in Northern Ireland this year.

X-men and The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman and Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer will be spending a lot of time on the Emerald Isle as production begins on The Death of Robin Hood.

The adaptation from Michael Sarnoski, director of the critically acclaimed 2021 drama Pig and horror/sci-fi A Quiet Place: Day One which came out last year, will star Jackman as the infamous Robin Hood. Comer’s role yet to be revealed.

However, according to an IMBD synopsis, the film will offer a different take on the classic tale. Instead of being portrayed as a heroic outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor Robin Hood will be “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.”

PA has confirmed the movie will be filmed in Northern Ireland, and Variety reports that production will start in February 2025.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski said in a statement.

“Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

The Death of Robin Hood is the latest in a long line of big budget films to be shot in the north, with other major productions including The Northman (2022), A School for Good and Evil (2022), Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves (2023) and most recently Universal Pictures live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon which is set to hit the big screen on June 13.

Following a “remarkable year” for the film and television industry in Northern Ireland 2025 looks set to be another stellar year for NI Screen with several productions already confirmed to begin filming. These include the third season of Blue Lights and No Ordinary Heist, a crime thriller inspired by the £26.5m robbery of the Northern Bank in Belfast in 2004.
