Be careful what you wish for. This is the message in Irish Wish which sees Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan play shy book editor Maddie Kelly, who is forced to put her feelings aside when the love of her life gets engaged to her best friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan).
Agreeing to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland, Maddie makes a wish to be the one marrying Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos), a writer for whom she’s been working for. The next morning she wakes up in bed with Paul as the bride-to-be, realising that she’s swapped lives with Emma.
The Netflix movie, which will stream globally from March 15, was shot in 2022 in Kilruddy House and Lough Tay in Co Wicklow, Westport in Co Mayo and the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare, and captures the breathtaking scenery of Ireland.
The Corr’s classic Breatheless accompanies the official trailer which sees Lohan taking in the sites and partaking in a spot of Irish dancing in a local pub.
Lohan, whose family can trace their roots back Ireland, said she jumped at the chance to explore this side of her heritage.
“Ireland’s so beautiful. I’d never been, [but] my grandfather’s from there. We stayed in this little town called Dalkey. The people are so nice, and the Guinness pies were amazing.”
Joining Lohan in Ireland was her younger brother, Dakota, who also appears in Irish Wish.
Irish Wish also stars Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey) as photographer James, whom Maddie first meets on a bus and goes on to teach her about herself and about the true meaning of love.
“It’s a nice story of luck and love and confidence,” Lohan says about the film. “It’s important to put yourself first and know your worth,” she says. “If you know you deserve better, go for it and get it.”
