Line of Duty looks set to return to TV screens for a seventh season after one of the show’s stars hinted that the cast have been asked back to film.

Christina Chong, who played DI Nicola Rogerson in the second and sixth seasons of the BBC crime thriller, hinted that the show could return after being asked for her availability.

The 41-year-old was asked about the popular programme, which last aired almost four years ago, at the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles.

“So, I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven,” she said.

Rumours circulating a follow-up to the record-breaking sixth season have been swirling since it finished airing back in 2021.

The finale of the latest instalment of the series, which has been filmed in Belfast since season two, peaked at over 13 million viewers.

This made it the highest-rated drama since records began in 2002.

Co Fermanagh actor Adrian Dunbar, who stars as fan-favourite Ted Hastings, had teased the return of the show last November during an interview with Virgin Radio.

At the time, he said that the show’s creator, Jed Mercucio, had been working on a script.

“‘He is writing,” he said.

“We haven’t got a script on the desk yet. We know that Dr. Mercurio is out there doing something – Jed is writing.

“But as to when it’s going to happen, we don’t know.”
