Tom Fletcher has spoken of his “overwhelming pride” for his son, Buzz, after he made his musical debut in Starlight Express.
Buzz, 10, portrays the narrator Control in the Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber roller skate musical, where he acts as announcer during the the steam engine’s battle against the diesel locomotive.
McFly singer Fletcher wrote on Instagram that he had been “been keeping this quiet for a little while” before Buzz’s debut performance on Saturday at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
He added: “I can’t even begin to describe the overwhelming pride (and nerves!) watching him run out onto that stage and deliver those opening lines and then give the most amazing performance. It was total magic and a memory for us all that will never be forgotten!
“I can’t thank the whole Starlight team enough for believing in him and giving him this amazing opportunity to be part of this absolute spectacle of a show.”
Fletcher added that he did his performing arts school “proud”.
His former Strictly Come Dancing partner Amy Dowden wrote on the post, saying: “Always said he’s going to be on the stage. Go Buzz and well done to his fabulous parents.”
With lyrics by Richard Stilgoe and music from Lord Lloyd-Webber, Starlight Express has had thousands of London performances since 1984.
Fletcher, also an author of children’s books, shares three sons – Buzz, Buddy, and Max, with wife Giovanna Fletcher.
