Professor Green has said he “cried so many happy tears” after it was revealed his partner’s miscarriage diagnosis was false.
The London-born rapper, real name Stephen Manderson, welcomed his first child with actress Karima McAdams in 2021.
Appearing on the Who We Are Now podcast with Richard and Izzy Hammond, the musician said he was told McAdams had miscarried before finding out a day later that their son was still alive.
“We had an incredibly fragile pregnancy, and it was during Covid, which was tough, because I couldn’t go in”, he said.
“I’ve never discussed this. I’ve written about it recently. I wrote a chorus for a song that’s called Blue Blanket, which was about my great grandmother’s blue blanket.”
He added: “But I wrote this song about – and it’s the first time that I’ve discussed what happened.
“We were told we miscarried during Covid, so I was in a car park crying my eyes out waiting for her to come out.
“They wouldn’t do the scan because it was night time, and it was actually a nurse who said, ‘I’ve got a lady here who has miscarried. Can we make an exception? Can her partner come in?’ And they said ‘no’.
“But through that moment, you’ve told us. So I’ve had to leave my partner at the most distressing moment, and this was after the three months where you don’t tell anyone.
“This was like four-and-a-half months in, where it’s like, you’re having a baby.
“And also, you realise at this point that you don’t just want a baby, you want that one, because you’ve already started to bond.”
He added: “It was tough, obviously, we went home. We cried our eyes out.
“She had to go back in the next day to see if she needed a procedure, and the little, I was gonna call him something bad then, the little bugger was in the womb doing the Bogle (a dance style).
“His arms are just going like that. And we were like – I’ve never cried so many happy tears in my life. He was fine. He’s there.”
Ultrasound scans, external scans, and blood testing can be used to diagnose a miscarriage.
Sometimes a miscarriage cannot be confirmed immediately using ultrasound or blood testing, according to the NHS website.
The rapper married former Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh in 2013, but the pair split in 2016.
In 2021, he and McAdams announced their engagement.
Alongside his music career, he has fronted a host of BBC documentaries including Suicide And Me, which takes a look at the suicide of his father.
