Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd has jokingly challenged Hollywood star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to a wrestling match, after giving the former wrestler an impromptu shoutout during his Golden Globes acceptance speech.

The Netflix debut of WWE’s flagship event Raw on Monday attracted stars including actress Vanessa Hudgens and her baseball player husband Cole Tucker, rapper Travis Scott, and Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin – whose brother Kieran picked up his second Golden Globe on Sunday.

The wrestling event also featured a Girl Meets World reunion with Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle and saw wrestling star-turned-actor John Cena kick off his retirement tour, while Johnson also appeared in the ring with a custom title belt over his shoulder.

Among the stars in the crowd was Scottish writer and actor Gadd – a day after his dark comedy drama Baby Reindeer was named best limited TV series at the Golden Globes.

Standing ringside, Gadd told US outlet Deadline that he has been a “wrestling fan my entire life” before joking about getting Johnson in the ring.

“I’m going to give him a stone-cold stunner,” referencing a wrestling move.

“I think he can take it, he’s taken a few down the years.

“But it would be an honour to — maybe I’ll put my Golden Globe on the line in a sort of Universal Championship vs Golden Globe match with (US wrestler) Cody Rhodes, maybe.

“Winner takes all.”

It comes after Gadd namechecked Johnson in his Golden Globe acceptance speech on Sunday.

“This is insane seeing all you people here. That’s mad,” he said after collecting the prize on stage.

“The Rock is there. This is crazy, I can’t believe it. Honestly, I grew up on you, man. This is nuts.”
