Usher has revealed that a neck injury sustained during rehearsals was the reason for postponing a series of shows.

The American singer, 45, postponed his concert in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday with hours to go because of the need to recuperate but did not specify the medical problem at the time.

On Thursday, the eight-time Grammy winner said that Friday and Saturday’s concerts will also be rescheduled as he needs “rest and treatment”.

Usher wrote on Instagram: “Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest Usher show of all time.

“My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night.

“Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.

“The good news is that the doctors are saying that with appropriate rest and treatment, I should be ready to commence the tour in Washington DC on August 20th.

“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an Usher show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon.”

Aside from his eight-night residency at La Seine Musicale in Paris last year, the upcoming tour shows in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin will be his first European performances since the 2015 UR Tour.

He announced the new tour at the Super Bowl half-time show, which included a medley of hits such as Yeah! and Love In This Club at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Usher said his dates in Atlanta will be moved to December 9, 10 and 12.
