Niall Morgan: Picked his way out of a few holes in the second half. Almost created a goal with the same booming kickout Patton destroyed Derry with. Small bit rash on his aerial work. 6.5
Conall Devlin: Started well on Oisin Brady but began to struggle. Tyrone were worried about a physical mismatch when he was left on James Smith for a period in the second half. 5.5
Padraig Hampsey: Paddy Lynch’s two points from play were really good snapshots that Hampsey couldn’t do much about. Otherwise he was right in the grill of Cavan’s primary score-getter. Unlucky with the black card, but might have avoided getting involved at all. 7
Michael McKernan: An excellent display. Had two points and an assist inside ten minutes. Defensively got the better of Cian Madden. Marked Lynch during the black card spell and drove out to win a crucial free in that time that Canavan scored. 8.5
Kieran McGeary: Opened up an early half goal chance with an incision but otherwise struggled to get heavily enough involved in Tyrone’s attacking play. 5.5
Mattie Donnelly: Had a really solid opening to the game when he was siting in the pocket, including a brilliant block to deny Ciaran Brady a goal. Cavan drew him out and limited him in the role more after half-time but he still had moments of real influence. 7
Niall Devlin: Did a good defensive job primarily on Gerry Smith. Kicked wide with the chance to win it in normal time but redeemed himself with a cool point in extra-time. 6.5
Brian Kennedy: The kickout battle largely bypassed midfield but he found ways to stay relevant in the game. Kicked a fine point and horsed himself through Cavan’s defence at times. A bang to the head limited him and eventually forced him off. 6.5
Aodhan Donaghy: Largely did ok on the more physical Conor Brady, and was manful about being asked to go and play full-back for a spell while they tried to solve the James Smith conundrum. Involved in setting up Gray’s goal. 6.5
Ciaran Daly: A point and two assists in the first half. Good option for Niall Morgan on kickouts. Had a goal chance blocked on the line. Growing into himself. 6.5
Seanie O’Donnell: Had a real battle with the hardened Ciarán Brady that the young Trillick man didn’t shy away from. Not hugely involved but did enough. 6.5
Liam Gray: A surprise debutant, he got on the end of the move to finish off a first-half goal. Lost Niall Carolan a few times. 6
Darren McCurry: Looked really on it in the opening quarter, cutting back door to set up the goal having already scored two points, missed a mark and won a free that Canavan scored. Cian Reilly settled but McCurry still got four, including one superb free from 45 metres. 7
STAR MAN: Darragh Canavan: He just keeps getting better. Cavan just could not deal with the combination of directness and dipping and ducking and weaving. Seven points in all, four of them from play. Kicked the ones when they really needed them too. 8.5
Ruairi Canavan: One fine point, one assist for Ciaran Daly with a pass you’re not sure was intended for him. Struggling to get into games. 6
Subs
Ben Cullen: Got a good second half score. 6
Joe Oguz: Edged the battle with Killian Clarke in extra-time. 6.5
Michael O’Neill: In the right place defensively a couple of times. 6.5
Cathal McShane: Held himself strongly to draw one scoreable free. 6.5
Lorcan McGarrity: More good than bad in a decent cameo. 6.5
Tiarnan Quinn: Cool head to land an awkward free. 6
Conor Cush: Not on long enough to be rated.
Nathan McCarron: Not on long enough to be rated.
