A player-of-the-match performance from Dunloy’s Páidí O’Kane saw Cross & Passion collect a rare football title in Swatragh yesterday afternoonwrites Séamas McAleenan.

Ballycastle’s first three scores were goals, the first coming from O’Kane’s Dunloy team-mate Rónán Elliott after four minutes.

That was quickly followed by a strike from Damian Laverty and then O’Kane’s goal to leave CPC ahead by 3-0 to three points from MJ Mac Oscair for Gaelcholáiste at the midway point of the half.

Another goal and a point from O’Kane, along with a point from Tom Richmond, left Gaelcholáiste a mountain to climb for the second half with a deficit of 4-2 to 0-4.

The Derry school reduced the gap to three points by the 40th minute with a goal from Harry Ó Cearnaigh and points from Mac Oscair and Brógan Ó Dughail-Ó Cinnéide.

However, Rónán Elliott’s goal in the 44th minute put Ballycastle back in control of the tie and they saw the game out.
