The big midfielder fired over four magnificent points

Shaun Patton Not one of his better days and the goal was a bit freakish although Matthew Tierney did a very good job of distracting the Donegal goalkeeper Patton’s confidence suffered after that. 6

Ciaran Moore Had a solid-enough game in his first year in the big time and showed his athleticism in patches but not as dominant as in previous games. 6.5

Brendan McCole He had a great tussle with Damien Comer and got the better of the exchanges. Held Comer scoreless and the latter was taken off. 7

Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher Had a fine game until he had to go off injured having done a very good marking job on Kevin Walsh who was substituted. 7.5

Ryan McHugh Got on a lot of ball but was well marshalled by a physically stronger Galway and was not able to have his usual influence on the game. 6.5

Caolan McGonagle Had a good tussle with the equally physical John Maher and hit a fine point in the first half. 6.5

Peadar Mogan Did not have the huge impact he had in previous games and was stymied any time her tried to take on the Galway defence. 6

Jason McGee His physical presence was needed and he had a reasonable first half but was showing the effects of his recent injury and was taken off before the end. 6

STAR MAN

Michael Langan One of Donegal’s few stars – and the best player on the pitch. the St Michael’s man kicked four magnificent points that would grace any occasion 8.5

Ciaran Thompson He had a good first half and hit one sublime point. Was desperately unlucky but rightly adjudged to have touched the ball on the ground that led to a vital Galway score in the second half. 7

Shane O’Donnell O’Donnell was his usual busy darting self – always looking for an opening and hit two fine points. 7.5

Aaron Doherty Started instead of Daire Ó Baoill and was not involved as much he would have liked and was replaced. 6

Paddy McBrearty The skipper hit one superb point when it was needed in the first half and landed another free before he was replaced late on. 6.5

Oisin Gallen Had a superb first half and hit three fabulous points including two with the left foot but the MacCumhaill’s man seemed to tire and missed an easy free near the end. 7

Caolan McColgan A late replacement for Niall O’Donnell but did not get to the pace of the game and was replaced by Daire Ó Baoill before half-time. 5
