DONEGAL’s season this year has been, for the most part, on the up-and-up with the north-west side hopefully carrying that on and taking another step towards an All-Ireland final date.
They started this year by winning the Allianz League Division Two title, beating Armagh by a point in the final, before beating the Orchardmen again in a penalty shoot-out to be crowned Ulster Champions.
They then suffered a slight wobble in the All-Ireland group stage when Cork handed them a rare defeat, beating them 3-9 to 0-16 in what appeared to be a chink in the armour that is a tight Donegal defence.
However, Donegal proceeded to top their group and secure a direct route to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
Louth are also having a season to remember, making their first-ever All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final and closing the gap between Dublin and themselves in Leinster.
Ger Brennan’s side have secured some historical results for the Wee County this year, including a draw with Monaghan and a win over Cork in the preliminary quarter-final.
They will be hoping to keep their dream alive this weekend but they will face a tricky task against an accomplished Donegal side back to its best and out to prove that they are well in the conversation for Sam Maguire.

The game will take place as the first match on this Sunday (June 30)’s Croke Park double-header of All-Ireland quarter-finals.
Throw-in for this game will be at 1.15pm, with Kerry-Derry starting at 3.15pm.
