The Greenfield Foods Monaghan SFC continued over the weekend with wins for Corduff, Clontibret and Killanny.
Corduff joined champions Scotstown at the top of Group 1 as they finished strongly to pip neighbours Aughnamullen yesterday.
Kevin Sheridan hit an early goal for wind-assisted Aughnamullen, but Corduff rallied to draw level by half-time at 0-6 to 1-3.
Despite being reduced to 14 men during the final quarter, Aughnamullen retook the lead at 2-5 to 0-9 when Mark McArdle hit the net late on, only for Corduff to respond with late points from Fergal Hanratty (two) and Diarmaid Marron.
Ballybay are a point behind the group’s joint-leaders after their low-scoring draw away to Cremartin.
Pearse Brothers led by the narrowest of margins going into the last five minutes, but a Stephen Mooney equaliser earned Cremartin their first point of the SFC group stage.
Clontibret remain in command in Group 2 after a convincing win in Donaghmoyne on Saturday.
They were well on their way to a third straight win when they led by 2-7 to 0-5 at the interval, helped by goals from Colum Greenan and Ryan McGuigan, who also sent a penalty over the bar after the restart.
David Garland and Liam McDonald led a Donaghmoyne comeback that saw them trim their deficit to two with 10 minutes left, but Clontibret hit back through Kieran Greenan en route to a win that has them set to take the direct path to the semi-finals.
Killanny boosted their qualification prospects with an exciting win at home to Latton.
Dean Connolly, Oisín Burns and Eddie Walsh all hit the net to propel Killanny into a nine-point lead and although Latton got one back before the break through Shane Slevin, they still changed ends trailing by 3-4 to 1-4.
Latton slowly worked their way back onto level terms during the second half, until John Gartlan netted Killanny’s fourth goal to secure their second win from three.
