MADDEN qualified for the last eight of the Cormac Leonard Commercials Armagh SFC despite suffering a one-point defeat against league champions Clann Eireann.

Madden, Clann Eireann and Maghery all finished on four points at the top of Group C, with the Raparees claiming top spot on scoring difference. Clann Eireann and Maghery will contest the play-offs, finishing second and third respectively.

A converted penalty from Conor Grimley after 20 minutes gave Mark Harte’s side the initiative and they carried a two-point lead into the half-time break, leading 1-4 to 0-5.

Clann Eireann shot back into contention right at the start of the second period when Daniel Magee captured a long ball in by Sean McCarthy and fired low to the net.

The hosts pushed two ahead by the end of the third quarter and Niall Smith made it a one-point game with the final score of the night, with Clann Eireann leading by the minimum when the final whistle sounded.

Elsewhere, Maghery picked up a seven-point win away to St Peter’s to back up their impressive victory over Clann Eireann in round two.

Kevin Robinson and Aidan Forker both hit the net for the Loughshore men as they ran out 2-11 to 1-7 winners.
