Mannok Fermanagh SFC round two: Teemore not without a shot as Kinawley visit

Four more games are down for decision in the Erne county this weekend

Former Donegal manager Declan Bonner guided Erne Gaels to an opening win and hopes to bank two more points on Sunday

(first-named teams at home)

GROUP A (Saturday)

Teemore v Kinawley (3.30 pm)

THIS south Fermanagh derby sees local pride and bragging rights very much to the fore.

Teemore gave championship favourites Enniskillen quite a fright in their opening game, while Kinawley eked out a draw in a turgid affair against their other neighbours from Belnaleck.

Teemore have a proud championship tradition and are always hard to beat at home, while Kinawley have been in the top four in Fermanagh for the past few seasons and reached the SFL final in 2022.

Ronan McCaffrey, Eoin and Cian McManus are key figures for Teemore, while Tomas Corrigan and Paul Breen are huge figures for Kinawley.

In Dom Corrigan, they have a vastly experienced mentor, while Teemore have Barry Owens in their backroom team.

Home advantage might sway it slightly for the Shamrocks.

Belaneleck v Enniskillen (6pm)

ANOTHER derby duel between two teams who have quite considerable knowledge of each other.

The Gaels, who last won a county championship in 2022, stuttered a bit against Teemore but still have loads of power and pace. Conor Love remains one of the deadliest finishers in the county, while Conor McShea, Jonny Cassidy, Brandon Horan, Callum Jones and John Reihill are all major figures.

For Belnaleck, Darragh McGurn is a towering presence and Lee and Che Cullen are county defenders. They can also call on the likes of Kane Connor and the gifted Bryan Owens to boost their efforts.

Belnaleck have the physical power to compete with the Gaels for long periods but it looks like a victory for the town side with a bit to spare.

GROUP B (Sunday)

Devenish v Belleek (1pm)

ERNE Gaels have the form and pedigree, but the formbook goes out the window when these parochial rivals meet.

The Gaels held off a strong challenge from Ederney last week but created four great goal chances, missing them all.

Meanwhile, gritty Devenish pulled off a great smash-and-grab act in injury-time to take a precious away point in Derrygonnelly.

Devenish traditionally have heart and guts in spades irrespective of their line-out and would relish taking a big scalp on their home turf.

But the Gaels look to be on a mission this year under Declan Bonner and they do have the artillery up front to get the scores.

Devenish could turn this into a real battle and the Gaels might just edge out a hard-fought contest.

Ederney v Derrygonnelly (3.30pm)

THE absence of Ryan, Conall and Garvan Jones was a big factor for Derrygonnelly as they surprisingly gave up a four-point lead against neighbours Devenish.

The tie was levelled by a Stephen O’Brien goal and a Fionan O’Brien point.

As speculation continues to swirl about the availability of the said trio, the Harps have a tricky away test to pointless Ederney, who lost to Erne Gaels last week.

Ederney desperately need the points and the Harps will be annoyed at dropping a precious point at home so we could be in for a real cracker.

When these sides met in the league, Ederney pulled off an unlikely win.

But even if the Jones’ are still absent, the reigning champions’ stung pride could well be the catalyst for two badly needed points, although Ederney could make this a really compelling contest.
