THE big story from the final round of matches in the Donegal SFC is that one of the championship favourites, St Eunan’s, have failed to make the quarter finals.

After an action-packed final weekend of group matches, the Letterkenny side found themselves in sixth position in the 16-team table, despite only losing one match.

In total, five teams were level on six points from their four games and they were seperated by scoring difference, with champions Naomh Chonaill and Kilcar putting up big scores yesterday to go straight through behind the two teams with 100 per cent records – Glenswilly and St Michael’s

The men from Glenties scored 4-11 in their home win over Aodh Ruadh, while Kilcar registered 2-17 in a 15-point win over Cloughaneely.

As expected, Eunan’s got the better of Downings on a score of 1-10 to 0-7 on Saturday but it was not enough and they were pipped for fifth by Dungloe, who scored 2-14 in their win over pointless St Naul’s

St Eunan’s will now take on Adara in one of four preliminary quarter-finals.

The other three will see Four Masters, who beat Ardara narrowly on Sunday by 0-6 to 0-5, take on Killybegs; Dungloe tackling Downings and  Gaoth Dobhair, who surprisingly lost to St Michael’s at home in another turgid affair on a score of 0-6 to 0-5, coming up against Sean MacCumhaills who lost to a Michael Murphy inspired Glenswilly by 2-11 to 0-12

Aodh Ruadh face a relegation play-off against Cloughaneely after their heavy loss to Naomh Conaill. So too do Glenfin, who missed out by a mere three points despite beating Killybegs by 2-8 to 0-11. They had a late goal disallowed which would have edged out Downings and given them a preliminary quarter final slot.

Glenfin now take on St Naul’s in a relegation play-off.
