Tyrone GAA has confirmed that their joint senior football manager Feargal Logan “is currently dealing with some health issues.”
The Stewartstown man was absent from Sunday’s huge clash away to Derry in Division One of the National Football League, leaving Brian Dooher in sole charge of the Red Hands.
A brief statement issued by Tyrone added that “Feargal wants to thank everyone for their support and good wishes. On behalf of all Gaels of Tyrone, we wish Feargal a speedy recovery and ask that his and his family’s privacy be respected by all at this time.”
Logan and Dooher have been in joint charge of their county since November 2020, succeeding the long-serving Mickey Harte. In their debut 2021 season they led Tyrone to an unexpected All-Ireland SFC triumph.
The duo had enjoyed success with the Tyrone U21 team, guiding them to an All-Ireland title in 2015, with many of that team going on to form the core of the current senior side.
There had been speculation last summer that Dooher and Logan would step down from their joint roles due to pressures of work but instead they sought and received a second three-year term as bosses of Tyrone.
This year is seen as a transitional season with a number of young players being blooded after retirements and injuries to senior stars.
Tyrone’s next League match is a home game against Galway on Sunday February 18, but there is no indication about when Logan will be able to return to the sidelines.
His predecessor Mickey Harte was forced to sit out one League match in April 2017, against Kerry, due to a surgical procedure, which later was revealed to be an early element in a lengthy but successful battle against bladder cancer.
