Oisin McConville is set to miss Wicklow’s next two Allianz Football League games after receiving a four-week ban for verbal abuse of a referee.

The Crossmaglen man was handed the ban following a Central Hearings Committee meeting on Wednesday night. It relates to an incident involving McConville and referee Kevin Eannetta during last Sunday’s Division Three match against Tony McEntee’s Sligo at Markievicz Park.

The Garden county lost the match 2-10 to 1-11, their second defeat of the season after their opening day loss to Down.

McConville can apppeal the ban to the Central Appeals Committee and, if unsuccessful, to the Disputes Resolution Authority.

However, as it stands, he will not be on the sidelines for Wicklow’s games against Westmeath and Clare.

The 2002 Armagh All-Ireland winner was appointed Wicklow manager in late 2022 and guided them to promotion from Division Four in his first season in charge.
