Conor Gleeson: Armagh did go after him. They laid traps, they created a situation he found so hard to get out of. Beaten to the punch by McKay on the goal. 6

Johnny McGrath: Really good first half on Conor Turbitt but found the directness of Stefan Campbell a different proposition in the ten minutes after the Clan na Gael man came on. 6.5

Sean Fitzgerald: One of Galway’s better performers on the day, he got the better of his battle with Andrew Murnin and swept up a lot of other stuff as well. 7.5

Dylan McHugh: Not quite as effective as in previous games but still a hugely effective line-breaker for Galway, even if they didn’t always make the most of it as a team. 7.5

Jack Glynn: His physical profile was perfectly suited to Rory Grugan and the Claregalway man had a really solid display defensively, without ever contributing much in attack. 6.5

Liam Silke: Was perhaps marginally shaded overall by Rian O’Neill but only just. A point apiece in the first half, Silke was on a lot of ball himself, but O’Neill dictated Armagh’s counter-attacking play in the second half. 7

Sean Mulkerrin: Armagh targeted him with Oisin Conaty’s pace and directness, and to great effect in the first 20 minutes. Settled up after that. 6

Paul Conroy: Has had a phenomenal season. The scores he kicked were outrageous, efforts without a square inch of space to breathe in. Big win on a late kickout that almost helped swing it too. 8

John Maher: The work he gets through is incredible. Maher was making tackles, creating turnovers. Umpteen driving runs when Galway broke at pace. Colossal at times. 8

Matthew Tierney: Hung around the edge of the square but Armagh’s switch of Connaire Mackin in for McGrane negated his height and as such, Tierney just ended up lost in the game. 5

Shane Walsh: Missed shots and couldn’t shake the double-team of McCambridge and McKay but Walsh gets serious kudos for continually demanding the ball and trying to make things happen. 7

Cillian McDaid: Very quiet first half but a big second period, particularly late on as Galway hunted the game down. Two superb points. 7

Cein D’Arcy: Galway’s best player on the day. Kicked three from play and kept on driving at the Armagh defence, right to the very last when he almost made the equaliser for Conroy. 8.5

Rob Finnerty: His absence was sorely felt. Took a bang picking a ball under pressure from Tiernan Kelly. Kicked the free over but only lasted ten minutes. 6

Damien Comer: So quiet again. Maybe there’s an injury hangover there but it looks mostly about how Galway are using him, or not using him as the case is. 5

Subs

Johnny Heaney: Galway wouldn’t have wanted him in so early, and didn’t get the impact they’d have liked. 6

Sean Kelly: One half run but hasn’t been able to shake his injury problems. 6

Tomo Culhane: Not on long enough to be rated.

Daniel O’Flaherty: Not on long enough to be rated.

Kieran Molloy: Not on long enough to be rated.
