DERRY’S hurling scene is proving to be alive and well despite the dwindling number of clubs in the Oak Leaf County, with two Ulster titles this year and another finalist.

Of the eight clubs in the county that offer senior hurling, three of them have made their way to the Ulster final, with Sleacht Néill and Ballinascreen taking their respective cups back to the county.

The latter of the two now face Russell Rovers, who complete the set of Munster championships for Cork, who also boast the Senior and Intermediate titles.

Ballinascreen beat East Cavan Gaels at Owenbeg on November 17 to take the Ulster title and also took the Ulster JHC Twinning title, beating Britain GAA Hurling champions Fr Murphy’s Hurling Club of London.

Rovers bested Waterford’s Junior champions Kilrossanty to take their provincial title on November 30 at Páirc Uí Rinn.
