CROSS & Passion, Ballycastle edged out St Killian’s, Garron Tower to win the EOS-sponsored schools’ hurling blitz organised by the University of Ulster at its Jordanstown campus on Wednesday.

CPC defeated Our Lady & St Patrick’s, Knock; St Louis, Ballymena and St Malachy’s, Belfast in the group stages and then St Mary’s CBGS, Belfast in the semi-final to set up the final shoot-out with their north Antrim neighbours, a repeat of last year’s Danske Bank Mageean Cup decider.

Garron Tower reached the final with wins over Rathmore; St Mary’s, CBGS; St Patrick’s, Maghera and Lecale Trinity in the group stages and then Knock in the semi-final, with last year’s goalie Thomas McLaughlin in superb scoring form along with Allstar midfielder Callagh Mooney.

Despite a goal from McLaughlin, CPC picked off the points via Roan McGarry, Conor Donnelly, Ronan Fitzgerald and Liam McGarry to win the final by 0-7 to 1-2.

Meanwhile, the new east Down school, Lecale Trinity, collected the EOS Shield, beating St Malachy’s, Belfast in the decider by 2-4 to 1-1, with the goals coming from Matthew Dorrian
