BALLYGALGET are set to play Liatroim despite the Fontenoys being on the receiving end of a 19-point hammering by Ards side Ballycran.

The unbeaten Ballygalget remained so after they handed out a hammering of their own to bottom-side Bredagh at home.

‘Galget went into the break 13 points up after a stellar first half but didn’t let up, scoring 3-4 in the last 15 minutes of the game to further stamp their authority over the Belfast side.

Portaferry, whose only loss so far this championship came to Ballygalget, went back to winning ways against Carryduff.

The reigning Down SHC champions are still very much in the race for the Jeremiah McVeigh Cup after their 29-point thrashing of the South Belfast team.

Liatroim are the final team to make it to the Down semi-finals despite the side finishing on the wrong end of a heavy defeat by last year’s losing Down finalists Ballycran.

Fontenoys, despite managing 23 points, leaked six goals against the Ards side but losses for Bredagh and Carryduff meant that the former Ulster Intermediate championship winners made it to the knockouts, to play the in-form Ballygalget.

Liatroim’s task was made harder by the fact that manager Collie Murphy and his sons, who were in the squad, walked away from the set-up on Saturday before the side’s game against Ballycran.
