AFTER a dramatic and enthralling win over Portaferry to claim the Ulster title, Sleacht Néill are back in action again, hoping to take a step into unknown territory in the new year and get to an All-Ireland hurling final.
Having edged their provincial decider against their Down rivals, now the Robbies must take on their Munster counterparts, Sarsfields of Cork.
Sarsfields have pedigree, beating the only team in the All-Ireland series left with previous experience of winning in the shape of Ballygunnar.
Their defeat of the Waterford side in the Munster final was a statement of intent from the Cork side, who collected their first provincial title in their history.
A key danger for Sarsfield will be Shane O’Regan off the bench, who scored 2-3 in 16 minutes to seal the Munster title for his club.
This is a tactic that they have deployed multiple times this season
The two sides will travel to Newbridge to decide who gets the opportunity of January hurling.
The winner of this tie will play either Leinster champions Na Fianna of Dublin and Galway champions Loughrea.
Galway’s champions get an automatic bye to the All-Ireland semi-final stage because there is no Connacht Senior Hurling Championship due to the lack of competition in the other western counties.
