Genesis has created a one-off special of its GV60 SUVs in honour of ex-Formula One racing legend, Jacky Ickx.
Named the ‘Desert Edition’, the car was driven a total of 3,700 miles of the Dakar rally from Bisha to Shubaytah, with Ickx being an honorary guest and joining the teams at each bivouac.
Celebrating his 80th birthday, the car was unveiled at a special handover ceremony in Riyadh on December 31 – with the team at Genesis giving Ickx an ‘E80’ sticker in honour of his birthday.
The GV60 Desert Edition has a number of different exterior and mechanical enhancements over the standard car including bespoke 20-inch forged alloy wheels, extended wheel arches of 400mm at the front, all-terrain tyres, adjustable suspension and a ‘desert’ setting, which can be accessed through the car’s drive mode system.
Furthermore, the car utilises LED auxiliary lights on the fog lights, A-pillars and on the roof as well as an LED light bar and custom roof rack which accommodates fuel canisters, sandboard and a rooftop tent.
Inside, the changes continue with an integrated drawer, which stores the full-size spare wheel, tools and emergency equipment with extra compartments for first aid kits and water supplies.
Sadly, the GV60 Desert Edition is just a one-off special with the firm showing no signs of putting the car into production.
