1. Up and at it - what is your morning routine?

I’m an early bird and am typically awake and up by 6am. My day kicks off with a refreshing shower and a bit of skincare to get me feeling fresh and ready. A good coffee is a non-negotiable part of my morning — I’m definitely a coffee addict. On non-working days, I enjoy a long walk while listening to a podcast or some uplifting music before breakfast. This quiet time in the morning helps me clear my mind and set positive intentions for the day ahead.

2. What might you eat in a typical working day for...

Breakfast? My go-to options are porridge or yogurt, topped with a mix of fruit, nuts, and granola. Sometimes, I’ll opt for eggs on toast.

Lunch? Lunch is usually something I can easily prepare at home such as a salad, wrap, or sandwich. I love experimenting with different ingredients to keep things interesting and tasty.

Dinner? This often features dishes like curry, stir-fry or pasta. I make sure to include a good balance of protein, vegetables, and carbohydrates in every meal. I’m a big snacker, though, throughout the day and enjoy munching on nuts, chocolate - and even pickles. I can easily polish off a whole jar in one sitting.

3. Is nutrition important to you – do you take health supplements?

Nutrition is essential for both mental and physical health. I don’t take health supplements because I believe in obtaining nutrients from a diverse range of healthy foods. From a young age, I’ve loved eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins and whole grains. I think it’s crucial to have a balanced, non-restrictive diet that supports overall wellbeing.

4. Ever been on a diet – if so, how did it go?

No, I’ve always been active and view food as fuel for my body, so I’ve never felt the need to diet. Besides, I love my food too much. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and balanced eating has always worked well for me.

5. Weekend treat?

My weekend treat is Indian food and my favourite spot is Nu Delhi in Belfast where the service and food are top-notch.

6. How do you keep physically and mentally fit?

I keep physically fit by combining weight training and running. My job as a nurse is also physically demanding, with 13-hour shifts that keep me on my feet. For mental fitness, I find peace in nature hikes, yoga and sauna sessions at home.

7. Best tip for everyday fitness?

My best tip for everyday fitness is to do exercises you enjoy, as it makes you more likely to stick with them. Also, ensure you get enough sleep — it’s crucial for recovery and overall health.

8. Were you a fan of school sports/PE or do you have a memory from those days you would rather forget?

I loved school sports and PE; they were a big part of my life growing up. However, I’d rather forget the time I lost my front tooth in a hockey stick accident. Thankfully, my dad is a dentist, which made the recovery process a bit easier.

9. Teetotal or tipple?

I’m an occasional drinker and enjoy a good cocktail or gin and tonic. And, if someone offers me a Guinness, I wouldn’t say no...

10. Stairs or lift?

Always the stairs — I have a bit of a fear of lifts.

11. What book are you currently reading?

I usually love a romance novel, but I’m currently engrossed in The Tattooist of Auschwitz. It’s a deeply moving read that offers profound insights into the human spirit and resilience.

12. Best Netflix/streaming TV?

I’m hooked on The Real Housewives series. The fashion, drama, and sheer entertainment value make it my guilty pleasure.

13. Any new skills or hobbies?

Not exactly new, but I love playing racket sports, especially with our badminton court at home. It’s a fantastic way to stay active and have fun with family and friends.

14. How do you relax?

I love having board game nights which get very competitive in our household.

15. What would you tell your younger self?

One thing life experience and maturity have taught me is: ‘You are enough.’ Don’t concern yourself with others’ opinions; the only one that truly matters is your own.

16. What are your goals going forward?

My goals are to make the most of the Miss World experience, seize every opportunity in the next year, and make my country and community proud. Additionally, I aim to continue promoting renal services and the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund as their ambassador, raising awareness and support for these crucial causes.

17. What time do you get to bed and do you think you get enough sleep?

I usually go to bed between 10-11 pm and wake up at 6am. I aim for seven to eight hours of sleep, but I’d like to get more as it’s key to mental and physical health. It’s a work in progress, but I’m committed to improving my sleep routine.

18. Biggest gripe or regret?

I don’t see the ‘lows’ in my life as regrets; I view them as learning experiences that have helped me grow. Every cloud has its silver lining and I’ve learned valuable lessons from every challenge I’ve faced.

19. Have your priorities in life or perspectives changed?

My priorities are constantly evolving with new experiences. Currently, I’m dedicated to maximizing the Miss World experience and promoting renal services and the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund as their ambassador. These roles allow me to make a positive impact and contribute to causes I’m passionate about.

20. Has coronavirus – or any health epiphany or life event - changed your attitude towards your own mortality?

I’m constantly grateful for my health. Working as a renal nurse and with the NI Children’s Hospice, I see people at their lowest points. This has given me a deep appreciation for life and its fragility and it reminds me to cherish every moment and take nothing for granted.
