PREMIUM Australian wine brand, Nepenthe, landed in the UK in the autumn, bringing a selection of wines from its two collections – Altitude and Pinnacle. The ranges include three popular Australian wines: a Sauvignon Blanc, a Pinot Noir and a Shiraz.
With the increasing interest from wine fans looking for something different (rather than their regular supermarket choice) – this popular Aussie brand could be the answer.
Founded in 1994, Nepenthe wines reflect a modern Australian style that embodies the cooler climes and higher altitude of the Adelaide Hills, championing the elegance and diversity of the land. The craftsmanship of the winemakers have led to the creation of exceptional wines with a distinctive regional character.
In recent years consumers have ramped up their demands for distinctive and varied wine options – people are looking a lot more from their wine experience – and Nepenthe targets this market.
The Altitude wines encapsulate the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills. The Altitude Sauvignon Blanc offers passionfruit and pineapple notes, complimented by a subtle tropical flavour and balanced by a crisp acidity – the perfect pairing for seafood or fresh goat’s cheese. The Altitude Shiraz has elegant flavours of berry and sweet spice, making it the ideal partner for lighter red meat dishes. Finally, the Altitude Pinot Noir exhibits fresh summer fruit flavours with subtle oak and spice notes. With a long, savoury finish, it partners perfectly with duck.
The Pinnacle range is a collection of premium boutique wines made with the best Adelaide Hills fruit.
The Pinnacle Petraea Sauvignon Blanc is offers delicious tropical and grassy flavours, with a richness that comes from being aged in French oak and making it a great match for oily fish and sushi. The Pinnacle Gate Block Shiraz hails from a high-altitude site in The Hills that benefits from ample sunlight, encouraging concentrated flavours of fresh red berries and classic pepper notes. With firm tannins and a long, lingering finish, this wine can be served with fuller-flavoured meats such as veal and beef. What’s more, Nepenthe’s 2016 Pinnacle Petraea Sauvignon Blanc won the Trophy for the ‘Best Sauvignon Blanc’ at the 2017 Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits competition at the beginning of November. It triumphed over top entries from France and New Zealand.
n Now available on Amazon, with the Altitude wines £12.99 and the Pinnacle range £19.99 per bottle.
