MAKING Sense of Autism' family fun days are planned for venues across the north on Saturday April 14 in support of World Autism Awareness Month.

Organised by Autism NI, the days will be free and be followed by a number of other events to raise awareness of the condition, including a Schools Sensory Challenge, a Corporate Colours Day and a Walk-5k-a-Day challenge.

In Belfast the family day will take place at Belfast City Hall on April 14 and parents and children are encouraged to attend, with the aim of learning more about living with the daily challenges of autism – and having some fun at the same time.

"We are very excited to be hosting a series of free events across Northern Ireland and supporting local families," said Kyle Duncan, family support group officer. "Please join us from 1pm until 4pm for our 'Making Sense of Autism' family fun day.

"Autism NI supports individuals and their families living with autism to become integrated and valued members of the community. The charity provides life-changing services for around 30,000 individuals living with autism in Northern Ireland."

The Belfast initiative is one of a series of ‘Making Sense' events being held across the north, with the aim to help people understand more about the condition while enjoying an interactive kids zone and health fair.

Other are being held at the Seven Towers leisure centre, Ballymena; Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen; and Guildhall, Derry (also on April 14), with a separate event running at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Lisburn, on Saturday April 21, from 1– 4pm.
