A WARM bath before bed really does help you nod off. Bathing in 40 to 42.5c water one to two hours before bed leads to improvements in sleep quality, including falling to sleep ten minutes more quickly, according to a study in the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews.
Reaserchers at The University of Texas, who analysed data from trials around the world, theorise that, as a fall in core temperature happens in the evening as part of the body’s natural rhythm, the brain interprets the sudden drop in body temperature that follows a hot bath as a signal that it is time to sleep.
