THE Woodland Trust has invited the public to enjoy “breathtaking views” during a guided walk at Carnmoney Hill in Newtownabbey.

The walk at 11am on Saturday September 24 allows locals and visitors to explore the haven for wildlife as well as the remains of a Victorian farmstead and limekiln.

Award-winning Woodland Trust volunteer Peter Lyons will lead the walk which he said will be “steep in parts, but you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views over Belfast Lough, as far as the Mournes.”

“There’s a real sense of calm here,” Mr Lyons said.

“The ancient hedgerows, for example, form quiet passageways and, years ago, would have led to isolated farmsteads on the hill.  The built features are precious, too.”

The guided walk is free, but booking in advance is advised as places are limited. Find out more and book your place at www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/events
