Tobar Mhuire retreat centre hosts its annual Ash Wednesday day of prayer on February 10

THE annual day of prayer held every Ash Wednesday in Tobar Mhuire Retreat House, Crossgar, will be dedicated this year to those who have lost ones through suicide.

It is an opportunity for people to gather in solidarity with and for support for all who have been affected by this tragedy.

The day, marked on February 10 this year, begins with an opening prayer service at 10am, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day.

The day will conclude with an evening Prayer Service at 7.30pm that will be addressed by Philip McTaggart, director of Mindskills and founder of the suicide support group PIPS.

Mr McTaggart lost his son through suicide and is a passionate speaker on issues around suicide, and a warm welcome is extended to everyone to participate in this day of prayer.

Brian McKee, retreat director at Tobar Mhuire said: "Following the death of a loved one through suicide, people are often left confused and coping with a whole range of emotions.

"Time may help to heal some of the hurt, but a lingering feeling of loss remains. We invite people to take time to remember their loved ones by joining us in prayer or by enjoying the beautiful grounds at Tobar Mhuire."
