Celebration of sport in Armagh

SPORTING CELEBRATION: St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh hosted an unusual fixture on Sunday, with schools and 30 sport clubs in the parish joining in a 'Family of Sports' procession. The celebration was part of the parish's preparations for next year's World Meeting of Families, with everyone attended encouraged to wear sporting colours or jerseys. Archbishop of Armagh Dr Eamon Martin led the celebration, along with Fr Peter McAnenly and Fr Thomas McHugh. The opening commentary was delivered by Charlie Vernon, who will play with Armagh Harps against Maghery in Sunday's GAA County Final. The Taylor Scallan School of Irish Dance was also involved, and music was led by Armagh Diocesan Youth Choir along with Malachi Cush and Plunkett McGartland. "It was a very unique and joyous occasion as people gathered in huge numbers from all across the parish and beyond, to thank God for the gift of sport and to give praise for all of what we gain as a result of being involved in the great 'Family of Sports'," said Fr Peter McAnenly.
