THE cream of Irish culinary talent will head to the north west next weekend for the annual Taste of Cavan food festival.

On the line up of chefs at the Cavan town event on August 12 and 13 is Neven Maguire, Rachel Allen, Richard Corrigan and Enda McEvoy.

Organisers have said there will be more than 120 stalls of quality Irish produce and plenty of "free family fun activities".

New to the festival is a Home Chef of Cavan cookery competition, where nine amateur chefs get to try their hand at cooking for a panel of top chefs and there will be a Junior Masterchef competition in association with the Olde Post Inn.

The inflatable Taste of Cavan stage will also host a series of food demonstrations, food talks, information sessions, and discussions, including a look at the implications of Brexit for Irish food.

Among the free activities are scout camp, face-painting, giant obstacle course and slide, junior fitness challenge, herb and vegetable gardens, 1916 exhibition, Geopark Fossil Hunting and a crazy playtrailer.

Entry for Taste of Cavan is €5 per day with kids under 12 going free and free parking available.
