PEOPLE in physically demanding jobs usually retire when they are about 60, research suggests. Men in such jobs are likely to need to retire by the age of 62, while women in such roles usually retire before the age of 60, experts say.

Physically demanding jobs including those in construction, manual labour such as carpentry, masonry, painting and plumbing, cleaning and manufacturing. These industries were also linked to higher rates of sick leave.

The authors of the study, published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, said their findings have implications for governments when they consider increasing retirement ages.
