CUPRA, Seat's performance-orientated sidekick, is offering its take on the Leon hot hatch as a plug-in hybrid as well as a petrol version.
It echoes the approach its sister companies Volkswagen and Skoda are taking with the sportier versions of the Golf and Octavia.
That means the e-Hybrid version uses a 1.4-litre petrol engine and electric motor for a total power output of 242bhp and torque of 295lb ft.
A 13kWh battery pack means it should be capable of travelling for up to 37 miles on electric power alone, says Cupra.
The battery can apparently be fully recharged in as little as three hours and 42 minutes via a home wallbox.
CO2 emissions are a company car tax-pleasing 30-31g/km, meaning low benefit in kind liability (10 per cent now, 11 per cent from April), while the quoted official fuel consumption is a you'll-never-do-it 217mpg.
The plug-in costs from £35,000 as a hatchback and from £36,095 as an estate.
Sporty embellishments include 19-inch machined black and silver alloy wheels, a rear diffuser with twin exhaust pipes, copper detailing and bucket seats.
The Cupra Leon also has a 10-inch infotainment set-up with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a seven-speaker audio system.
Higher trim levels bring features such as a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging and adaptive cruise control.
The regular turbocharged petrol Cupra Leon, which uses a 2.0-litre 296bhp engine, costs from £35,000.
And an even more potent version, packing 306bhp, is also imminent. It will be an estate-only and come with four-wheel-drive.
