WITH filming under way on the third series of hit Belfast-set psychological thriller The Fall, the BBC have released the first pictures of stars Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan as they return to their roles as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson and slippery serial killer Paul Spector.
While the painfully drawn-out machinations of series two proved a frustrating let-down in the wake of a mostly excellent debut season, last year's run of The Fall did eventually rally with an exciting climax that saw DSI Gibson finally nabbing the murderous Spector – only for him to be shot by wife-beating loyalist Jimmy Tyler (Brian Milligan).
With her sidekick DS Tom Anderson (Colin Morgan) also wounded in Tyler's woodland ambush, the third series will detail how Gibson picks up the pieces of her investigation and battles to keep Spector alive so that justice can be served.
The Fall regulars Colin Morgan, John Lynch, Valene Kane, Stuart Graham, Bronagh Waugh and Aisling Franciosi are all returning for the new series, which is set to feature new cast members including Krister Henriksson (Wallander), Aidan McArdle (Mr Selfridge), Ruth Bradley (Humans), Aisling Bea (Trollied) and Richard Coyle (Crossbones).
Series three is set to air later this year – here's hoping it's a return to form that gives the Beeb's excellent Belfast-shot cop drama Line of Duty a run for its money.
In the meantime, look-out for Gillian Anderson and co filming at a location near you.
