Sometimes when you’re in the library studying, all you need is a bit of a sugar kick to help you through. Yes, food isn’t generally allowed in libraries, the most you can normally sneak in is a biscuit or two.
But not so in this particular library, which has a *very* strict policy when it comes to our favourite sandwich biscuit: Oreos.
I came to the library to find some answers but leave with only questions… pic.twitter.com/9qIXWy4w9p

We’ve got to admit, this is one of the more confusing signs we’ve seen in a library. We’re used to all the “keep quiet” malarkey, but we’ve never seen Oreos so viciously targeted. It also begs the question: what on Earth are these “recent events”?
It’s sparked widespread outrage.

And many are wondering what this “incident” was that has so brutally destroyed the hallowed relationship between library and Oreo.
We liked Oreos. Before the… INCIDENT. https://t.co/W8K0M0xD6X

You don't remember the library before the dark times. Before the oreo purge. https://t.co/q6QekoZVWC

It really is a mystery.
BUT WHAT ARE THE RECENT EVENTS?! https://t.co/rnFuUEAhkh

Now I'm both curious and craving Oreos… https://t.co/WG8gSQWzoy

Others are just happy their own libraries don’t have such a policy.
@kathay1973 We have issues with kids and Cheetos at my branch. *shrugs*

And just when the questions were reaching a crescendo…
@kathay1973 please ask about this! Librarians worldwide want to know!

… one sharp-minded Twitter user realised the truth of the matter.
@JentoInfinity @kathay1973 It's an old poster that was made in response to an Oreo super bowl commercial.

Which you can watch here.
Phew. Now we can close the mysterious case of the library and the Oreo.
Excuse us while we go fetch some cookies (although we’re definitely not brave enough to go anywhere near the library with them).
