If South Africa’s eight-wicket defeat against India was built on a foundation of run-outs, David Miller and Faf du Plessis’ was surely the pick of the bunch.
With the score a respectable 142-3 after 29 overs in the teams’ final Champions Trophy group game, Miller and du Plessis went for a poorly judged quick single – the latter changed his mind while the former continued to strive for the run.
The result was a pretty amusing image of both batsmen racing one another for the crease.

The ball ended up going to the non-striker’s end where Virat Kohli took the bails off. No video footage was required at that end, but they did need it to ascertain who had to be given out.In the end it was Miller who was sent back to the changing room, and things did not get better from there, as South Africa were knocked out of the competition before the knockout stage.
Slapstick from South Africa, run out No.3, 191 all out (44.3). #INDvSA #CT17 pic.twitter.com/tL5HsUfsxJ

All in all three of South Africa’s wickets were run-outs, while India progressed to the semi-finals of the competition. They joined England and Bangladesh in the last four, having reached South Africa’s total in 38 overs with eight wickets in hand.
India have bowled and fielded superbly today and totally deserve to win #IndvSA

Not a great day for the South Africa team.
