Dennis Skinner has made his annual quip at the State Opening of Parliament and it's a good one

What did he say this time?
What did he say this time?

Labour MP Dennis Skinner once again took the opportunity to get himself heard at the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday.

As the MPs are summoned to the House of Lords to hear the Queen’s Speech, which signals the start of the parliamentary session, Skinner usually makes a comment on how he sees the world, and this year was no different.

As the internet watched all the pomp and ceremony take place, one question was on many lips: what will Skinner say this time?

Making a reference to the horse racing at Ascot, which the Queen was due to attend later after missing to attend Parliament, Skinner shouted at MPs: “Get your skates on, the first race is half past two!”It’s a little less political than previous outbursts, which include “hands off the BBC” and “Royal Mail for sale, Queen’s head privatised”, but the public loved it.

Now it’s another two years to wait for his next pithy statement.
