Author and TV presenter Dawn O’Porter has said she felt “rubbish” after her American TV series was dropped and she was too proud to move home.
Dawn enjoyed huge success in the UK during her twenties and said it was “a bad time” when her career went into decline.
She told ITV’s Loose Women: “I went out there to film a series that didn’t get picked up for a second series, but I was living out there and if I had moved home, everything probably would have been fine, but I was a bit too proud to come home so I kind of lost momentum a bit here.
“I felt rubbish. I’m a really ambitious workaholic so it was a bad time.
“I find it weird talking about it now because it feels so long ago and it was a couple of years of me not pulling my finger out.”
Dawn – nee Dawn Porter – is now a successful author and is married to actor Chris O’Dowd and living in Los Angeles, with the pair expecting their second child.
She said she was not sure she wanted children when their relationship began, but said she has loved motherhood.
She said of Chris: “He’s a natural dad, he would have been disappointed.
“I’m not sure what would have happened if I had turned around and said I’m not going to do this, but that didn’t happen.”
She is due to give birth in July and said she is planning a home birth after being intimidated by the American approach.
She said: “Last time, I just took paracetamol. It was very Victorian, a piece of leather to clamp down on.
“The medical intervention over there is quite intense and I just found it all a bit intimidating and wanted it to be as natural as possible and found some lovely midwives.”
