One of the most frightening titles of all time – The Exorcist –  is being adapted for the West End Stage.

The show, with an 18-plus age guidance, will open more than 40 years after William Peter Blatty’s best-selling novel hit the shelves.

It was later made into a controversial movie, opening in cinemas in 1973.

Some cinema-goers passed out watching the film, which scooped two Academy Awards, about a girl possessed.

The show will be directed by Sean Mathias and adapted for the stage by John Pielmeier.

The Exorcist, which made its debut at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre last year, runs at the Phoenix Theatre from October 20 2017, to March 10 2018. Tickets go on general sale at 4pm on Friday.
