Aston Merrygold said he is donning his Cuban heels when he takes to the Strictly dancefloor as he is worried his partner will tower over him.
The diminutive singer, 29, is hoping to be paired with the shortest of the professional dancers for the talent show.
“I say that, but even when the heels are on they are tall!” he said.
“I’ve got my Cuban heels so I’ll be alright.
“In terms of the professionals on this show they’re exceptional and I’m lucky enough to be on it, as long as I’m not being towered over!”
Merrygold said he is looking forward to performing the routines although he confessed to being a little wary of the Lycra, sequins and sparkles that come with a stint on Strictly.
He said: “At first I wasn’t looking forward to the outfits but now I think, ‘OK, I’ve been to the gym a bit, watch what you eat’.”
Merrygold said despite his JLS days he is not a trained dancer and will be as green as everyone else when it comes to conquering ballroom.

Asked what will be his biggest challenge during Strictly, he said: “New movement and the counts, as much as everyone thinks, ‘Oh you can dance you’re fine, I’ve seen you dance in JLS,’ but I have no idea about this.
“The same way someone else who might not have any dance experience will have to learn as well, we’re all in the same boat!”
Strictly Come Dancing returns for the launch show on BBC 1 at 7pm on September 9.
