Taylor Swift is on course to clinch a second week at the top of the UK singles chart with her new song.
The US star’s comeback track, Look What You Made Me Do, is out in front of the competition at the halfway stage of the week, said the Official Charts Company.
Swift’s closest rival, Dua Lipa’s former number one New Rules, is trailing by more than 3,000 combined sales.
Swift’s electro-pop track is the lead single from her forthcoming album Reputation, which is out in November.
It broke Spotify records for the most streams in a day on its release, with eight million plays globally, and rocketed to number one in the UK.
The video, in which the star appears to kill off previous incarnations as a country star and pop princess, has been viewed more than 189 million times on YouTube.
Swift also has a presence further down the chart, where her other new track, Ready For It, is at number 25 after just a day.
The star surprised fans when she unveiled the song just a week after dropping Look What You Made Me Do.
Pink’s What About Us and Justin Bieber and Bloodpop’s Friends are currently in third and fourth in the singles chart, while James Hype’s More Than Friends, a reimagining of En Vogue’s Don’t Let Go, is in fifth.
Katy Perry’s Swish Swish, featuring Nicki Minaj, is continuing its resurgence, advancing nine places to 20, while Maroon 5 look certain to secure their 20th Top 40 hit with What Lovers Do, featuring SZA.
In the album chart, Irish pop rock trio The Script are leading the way with their fifth studio album Freedom Child.
LCD Soundsystem are in second with American Dream, their first record for seven years, while electronic duo Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark could net their first top three album since 1991 with The Punishment Of Luxury.
