Schitt's Creek star Annie Murphy embraces Irish heritage

Canadian actress Annie Murphy, best known for her role as Alexis in Schitt's Creek, recently opened up about her Irish heritage and family roots.

In an interview with RTÉ Entertainment, Murphy shared details about her ancestry and expressed her love for Ireland.

"I do have Irish roots! They’re not as immediate as I would like, but my great-grandfather's from Ireland and my dad, Frank Murphy, is a very proud Irishman," Murphy revealed.

Despite the generational gap, she feels a strong connection to her Irish heritage, stating, "It's in the blood."

Murphy had the opportunity to visit Ireland with her family, exploring the places where her ancestors once lived.

"My family are from County Carlow, and so I went over with my folks a little while ago and we did a whole tour of where all my ancestors were," she shared.

Reflecting on her experience, she expressed her longing to return, saying "I want to come back so badly - it's so beautiful over there."

When asked about her favorite Irish actor, Murphy's admiration for Cillian Murphy was evident. "I could look at his face in terror and lust all day long - I think he's so incredible," she gushed.

Beyond her role in Schitt's Creek, Murphy has continued to grow her acting career.

She recently took on the lead role in Kevin Can F... Himself, a dark comedy and in Black Mirror where she joined Salma Hayek in the sixth season for an episode titled Joan Is Awful.
