Woman dies in cliff fall

A YOUNG woman has fallen to her death from cliffs at Downhill in Co Derry.

The woman's body was found at the bottom of the cliffs overlooking Downhill Beach yesterday morning. Police said they are not treating her death as suspicious.

It is understood the emergency services were alerted at around 11am.

A police spokesman said a postmortem examination will take place. "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was discovered on Downhill Beach," he said. "A postmortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death. Police are not treating this death as suspicious at this stage."

National Trust property Mussenden Temple stands on top of the cliffs and the railway line runs below. Police could not last night say whether the woman's identity was known to them.
