A NEW Catholic secondary school has appointed its first head and chosen its name - Trinity College.
Little Flower is to be discontinued in north Belfast, along with St Patrick's College, Bearnageeha, with the two making way for a new co-ed school in 2017.
It is expected that the school will remain split across the two existing sites until a location for a new building can be found.
Teachers and parents are concerned about aspects of the plan, which mean children can only win places at single sex schools if they pass the 11-plus.
The mother of a Little Flower pupil has won high court permission to challenge the planned amalgamation. A judge granted leave to seek a judicial review of former education minister John O'Dowd's approval of the merger.
Lawyers for the girl's parent are seeking to quash decisions to close both and create the new co-educational school, opening in September 2017. They claim the plan discriminates against Catholic students in the area by unlawfully denying them the opportunity of single-sex, non-grammar education.
Planning for the new school has been continuing. It has now been confirmed that Little Flower head Jim McKeever will be the principal designate. The school will also be known as Trinity College following a consultation with pupils, staff and parents.
