A Cookstown developer has unveiled plans for a new apartment scheme next to one of the town’s core retail hubs.
Rea Developments has submitted a bid for 49 apartments next to the Broadfields Retail Park on Orritor Road.
The proposal could see a new four storey residential structure built over an underground car park, with new ground level retail units on the site, next to the M&S Foodhall in the Co Tyrone town.
The site is currently occupied by Bremar Tiles, with a large derelict building to the rear.
The planning application comes just two weeks after Lidl secured planning permission to build a new supermarket on the other side of the Orritor Road.
The new £8 million store will see the discount retailer replace its current location in Station Square.
Lidl’s current Cookstown outlet opened in 1999, marking its retail debut on the island of Ireland.
Meanwhile, planning permission has been granted for the first phase of a new business park on the outskirts of Cookstown.
MACM (NI), which trades as MacMahon Construction, is behind the project next to the Kilcronagh Business Park.
The plans include three units for light industrial use, a security gatehouse and a roadway.
