The City Hotel in Derry is set to undergo a multi-million pound facelift following a new franchise deal signed with Hilton.

The Queens Quay venue will be rebranded as DoubleTree by Hilton Derry, with English operator Focus Hotels appointment to manage the site.

It’s understood in the region of £7 million will be invested in a regeneration programme set to begin in November.

A consortium of Derry-based investors, which owns the hotel, is set to remain in place.

Solicitor Greg McCartney, who chairs the hotel’s board of directors said: “We are delighted to welcome the global Hilton brand to the city.

“The new hotel marks an important milestone in the city’s evolution, enhancing its reputation as a key destination for tourism and business.”

The hotel’s directors include Larry Duddy, Gay Durkan, Patrick Durkan and Eleanor McCartney.

Graham Dodd, managing director for development within Hilton’s UK and Irish operation, said: “Our debut in the city marks a significant step in Hilton’s further expansion across Northern Ireland.

“With rising tourism demand in the region, we’re excited to be working closely with Focus Hotels to introduce the warm hospitality that DoubleTree by Hilton is known for globally, enhancing the city’s appeal as a must-visit destination for domestic and international travellers alike.”

The deal with Focus Hotels comes just a few months after the English operator was signed up to run the Holiday Inn Express in Derry City.

It’s understood the three-star Holiday Inn Express is owned by brothers Larry and Brendan Duddy Junior.

Focus has also been appointed by the Derry-based Martin Property Group to run the new Bedford Hotel in Belfast, set to open next year.

“This property is a real treasure in the city’s dynamic hospitality and tourism market, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue our longstanding partnership with Hilton,” said Devin Grosse, CEO of Focus Hotels.

“It is a true pleasure to be part of this project, and we look forward to bringing it to life for the hotel’s forward-thinking owners.”

The 158-room DoubleTree by Hilton Derry is set to open in 2025, featuring a revamped bar and restaurant, together with its ballroom, seven meeting room and swimming pool.
