Co Tyrone hospitality company Innbar Group has announced it will close The Aviary bar and restaurant in Omagh at the end of the month.

The venue on the Strule River embankment originally opened at Old Market Place in 2021, as part of the expanding hospitality interests of the group, headed by Derry native Stephen Doherty.

In a statement posted on social media on Wednesday evening, the group said: “With the heaviest of hearts, we at The Aviary have come to the point where it’s time for us to close our book with the closing of the business.”

Describing “a whirlwind three years” since opening, the business said: “In our heart of hearts we know that the time is right for us to call it a day at The Aviary.”

The company said the two-floor venue will close its doors for the final time on Sunday October 27.

Innbar’s portfolio includes the Village Inn, Canavan’s, The Cat & Fiddle, Daly’s Bar & Lounge and Hagan coffee bar.

In a plea for the public to support local high street businesses, Innbar said: “Times are unquestionably hard for all of us but these places are the beating hearts of our towns and at the minute there are far too many empty premises in Omagh’s town centre.

“Shop local, eat local, drink local. Support those smaller independent businesses.

“Town centres and hospitality relies upon people coming through their doors, get out there and give these businesses a chance of surviving in these tough times.”

The group said vouchers for The Aviary will be fully redeemable in its restaurants at the Village Inn and Canavan’s.
