Belfast IT group Kainos has commenced a three-year contract with NHS England, potentially worth up to £37.4 million.
It’s the latest major deal landed by the software company, just five months after commencing a contract with The Open University, which has been valued in the region of £70m.
The multi-year partnership with the university will see Kainos support the creation and rollout of online services.
It will run for an initial four years, with the option of a one year extension.
The contract is expected to be worth up to £60m, rising to more than £70m when VAT is factored in.
Kainos has continued to land major digitisation contracts in England, with the NHS this time turning to the Belfast company to support the digital transformation of urgent and emergency care (UEC).
The £37m contract notice states the work will focus on the NHS Pathways triage software behind 111 and some 999 providers.
It will also involve the directory of services and UEC data, and potentially extend into other areas and products within UEC.
In June, Kainos was included in a list of 34 suppliers to provide cloud solutions to the NHS, with the total work package valued up to £500m.
The London-listed software group was also listed in similar supplier lists for ‘digital health advisory’ support to the NHS in May 2024.
Other significant public sector tenders secured by Kainos in the current financial year, include a £9.4m tender with the Department for Health and Social Care to work on the build and beta phases of its project to digitise the NHS health check.
The Belfast company was also awarded a £16m contract with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for the digital delivery of the MOT.
Kainos reported a pre-tax profit of £76.6m in the year to March 2023, a 14% increase on the previous financial year.
The company, which employs around 2,900 people worldwide, has now started work on its new Belfast headquarters on the Dublin Road.
Kainos is due to hold its next annual general meeting at the end of September.
