Strabane-based sportswear manufacturer O’Neills has reported rising sales and profit as its workforce grew to more than 800 people in 2023.

The Co Tyrone company, which is synonymous with the GAA across the island of Ireland, reported a 5% increase in turnover, with profit-before-tax rising by around 3% to £1.8 million for the year.

Perhaps most significant for the sportswear company was the expansion of its workforce, which increased to 803 people in 2023, up from 760.

The latest financial report filed with Companies House show O’Neills shareholder funds increased by 11% over the year to £17.1m.

The company, owned by Paul and Tony Towell, said its business faced another year of rising costs, with both operating costs and staff payroll increasing in 2023.

Staff costs rose by 9.4% year-on-year to £19.1m.

Alongside its online retail operation, O’Neills has nine sportswear shops around the north, alongside an outlet at its Walkinstown base in Dublin.

The sportswear firm also operates from five offices across England, Australia and Canada.

O’Neills has continued to seek to expand its reach outside the GAA.

One of its most significant deals in 2023 saw the Strabane firm pen a multi-year deal with EFL Championship side Bristol City.
