TK Maxx has created 15 new jobs as a result of its relocation of its flagship Belfast city centre back to CastleCourt.

The retailer, which vacated its large Donegall Arcade unit last week, said 80 staff are now based at its new Royal Avenue outlet, previously occupied by Debenhams.

TK Maxx originally opened a store in CastleCourt during 1995 but later made the move to Donegall Aracade.

CastleCourt’s management said the retailer’s return means 100 jobs have been added to its complex through 12 new tenants in the past year.

Artist Jacqueline Rooney and Portadown-based Rhiannon Cakes & Bakes are among the new tenants to open units at the centre in recent weeks.

CastleCourt, which is owned by Holywood-based Wirefox, said a new fashion retailer and food court tenant will also be announced soon.

Centre manager Leona Barr said the opening weekend of the new TK Maxx store brought with it a boost in footfall.

“We’re delighted to welcome the store back to where it first opened in the city centre, including some of the original staff members who worked in CastleCourt’s TK Maxx in 1995,” she said.

“The continued investment by Wirefox ensures CastleCourt remains competitive and an attractive outlet for our tenants.”

Gareth Howell from Wirefox said: “We continue to make significant in-roads into filling the space left vacant by the closure of Debenhams, and welcome TK Maxx back to CastleCourt as a significant part of that process.”
